Thermal Fatigue
Thermal fatigue is a type of metal fatigue caused by the repeated heating and cooling of aircraft components, which can lead to cracking and failure. This is particularly relevant in high-temperature areas of the engine, such as the combustion chamber and exhaust system. Thermal fatigue can be exacerbated by factors such as rapid temperature changes, thermal shock, and thermal gradients. To prevent thermal fatigue, aircraft manufacturers use materials with high-temperature resistance and design components with thermal expansion in mind. Regular inspections and maintenance are also important to detect and address any signs of thermal fatigue before they lead to failure.
