Touchdown Zone
In aviation, the touchdown zone is the portion of the runway where an aircraft first makes contact during landing. It is typically the first 3,000 feet of the runway, measured from the threshold. The touchdown zone is marked with a series of transverse lines called touchdown zone markings, which consist of pairs of rectangular bars symmetrically arranged about the runway centerline. These markings help pilots to identify the touchdown zone and to make a safe landing. The length of the touchdown zone can vary depending on the type of aircraft and the prevailing weather conditions.
