Unmanned Aerial Vehicles

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), also known as drones, are aircraft that are operated without a human pilot on board. They are a component of an unmanned aircraft system (UAS), which includes a UAV, a ground-based controller, and a system of communications between the two. UAVs can be remote controlled or fly autonomously through pre-programmed flight plans or more complex dynamic automation systems. They are used in a wide range of applications, including in the military for surveillance and attack roles, in civil aviation for tasks such as firefighting and border patrol, and in commercial applications such as aerial photography and agriculture. UAVs can vary widely in size, from small personal drones to large military drones. They can also be equipped with a variety of technologies, including cameras, sensors, and weapons. The use of UAVs has raised a number of legal and ethical issues, particularly in relation to privacy and warfare.
