Aerial Warfare
Aerial Warfare refers to the use of military aircraft and other flying machines in warfare, where the battlespace is the atmosphere above the surface of the earth. It includes bombers attacking enemy installations or a concentration of enemy troops, fighter aircraft battling for control of airspace, attack aircraft engaging in close air support against ground targets, naval aviation flying against sea and nearby land targets, gliders, helicopters and other aircraft to carry airborne forces such as paratroopers. Aerial warfare has been the central component of any war conducted since the Second World War. It is designed to seize control of the air, strike ground targets, and assist ground operations through close air support and transport of ground forces. In modern warfare, aerial warfare is often a decisive factor in warfare, especially in counter-insurgency operations.
