Airway
In aviation, an airway is a designated route in the airspace that connects one specific location to another. Air traffic controllers use airways to guide aircraft along a specific path, ensuring safe separation between aircraft and efficient use of airspace. Airways are typically defined by a centerline that extends from one navigation aid or fix to another, and have a specific width that varies depending on the altitude of the aircraft. Airways are identified by a letter and a number, such as V-23 or J-147, and are depicted on aeronautical charts. Pilots are required to follow the designated airways unless otherwise instructed by air traffic control.
