Cabin Pressurization
Cabin pressurization is the process of pumping compressed air into the cabin of an aircraft in order to maintain a safe and comfortable environment for passengers and crew at high altitudes where the air is too thin to breathe normally. The air is usually bled off from the engines, compressed, and then cooled before being distributed throughout the cabin. The pressure inside the cabin is regulated by outflow valves that allow excess air to escape. Without cabin pressurization, passengers and crew would experience hypoxia, which is a lack of oxygen in the body that can lead to unconsciousness and even death.
