Class D

Class D airspace is designated airspace surrounding an airport with an operational control tower. The airspace extends from the surface up to a specified altitude, and is designed to protect aircraft operating in the vicinity of the airport. Pilots must establish two-way radio communication with the control tower before entering Class d airspace, and must receive clearance to land or take off. Class d airspace is typically found at smaller airports with lower traffic volumes, and is often located near Class B or Class C airspace. It is depicted on aeronautical charts with a dashed blue line.
