Coordinated Universal Time (UTC)

Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) is the primary time standard by which the world regulates clocks and time. It is one of several closely related successors to Greenwich Mean Time (GMT). For aviation purposes, UTC is used as the standard time against which all flight plans, air traffic control clearances, and weather forecasts are based. This is because UTC does not change with a change of seasons, making it easier for pilots and air traffic controllers to communicate across different time zones. UTC is also used to determine the time of certain navigational fixes and to calculate the estimated time of arrival for flights. In aviation, UTC is often referred to as 'Zulu time' or 'Z time'.
