Distress Signals
Distress signals are signals transmitted by an aircraft in distress to indicate that it is in an emergency situation and requires immediate assistance. These signals can be visual, such as flares or smoke, or auditory, such as a distress call on the radio. The use of distress signals is regulated by international aviation law, and failure to respond to a distress signal is considered a violation of this law. Pilots are trained to recognize and respond to distress signals, and air traffic control is responsible for coordinating the response to distress signals.
