Electromagnetic Interference Shielding

Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) Shielding is the process of reducing the electromagnetic field in a space by blocking the field with barriers made of conductive or magnetic materials. EMI shielding is essential in aviation to protect electronic equipment from interference caused by external sources such as lightning, radio waves, and other electromagnetic radiation. The shielding materials can be applied to the surface of the aircraft or integrated into the structure of the aircraft. EMI shielding effectiveness is measured in decibels (dB) and is dependent on the frequency of the electromagnetic radiation and the thickness and conductivity of the shielding material.
