Emergency Overrun

Emergency Overrun is a situation where an aircraft is unable to stop before the end of the runway due to an emergency or other reasons. It can occur during takeoff or landing, and can be caused by factors such as runway contamination, mechanical failure, or pilot error. In such situations, the aircraft may continue beyond the end of the runway and onto the surrounding terrain, which can result in damage to the aircraft and potential injury to passengers and crew. To prevent emergency overruns, airports are required to have safety areas at the end of runways, which are designed to provide a buffer zone for aircraft that are unable to stop. These safety areas are typically made of materials that can slow down or stop an aircraft, such as crushable concrete or engineered materials.
