European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA)
The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) is a regulatory body of the European Union (EU) with responsibility for civil aviation safety. It carries out certification, regulation, and standardization, and also performs investigation and monitoring. It collects and analyses safety data, drafts and advises on safety legislation, and coordinates with similar organizations globally. EASA ensures the highest common level of safety protection for EU citizens, the highest common level of environmental protection, a single regulatory and certification process among Member States, and facilitates the internal aviation single market and creates a level playing field. EASA's responsibilities include the design and construction of aircraft, their engines, and parts, the operation of aircraft, pilot licensing, air traffic services, and the maintenance of aircraft and components. It is headquartered in Cologne, Germany, and works closely with the National Aviation Authorities (NAAs) of the EU Member States but can also act independently of them.
