Farnsworth Lantern Test
The Farnsworth Lantern Test is a color vision test used in aviation to determine if a pilot has adequate color vision to safely operate an aircraft. The test consists of a series of colored lights that the pilot must identify in a specific order. The Farnsworth Lantern Test is used because color vision is important in aviation for identifying colored lights on runways, navigation lights on other aircraft, and for reading important color-coded instruments and displays in the cockpit. The test is named after its inventor, Dean Farnsworth, and is also known as the Farnsworth-Munsell 100 Hue Test.
