Flying Boom

A flying boom is a rigid, telescoping tube that is used to transfer fuel from one aircraft to another during flight. The boom is attached to a tanker aircraft and is operated by a boom operator who extends and directs the boom towards a receiver aircraft. The receiver aircraft then connects to the boom and fuel is transferred through the tube. This method of in-flight refueling allows aircraft to remain airborne for extended periods of time, increasing their range and operational capabilities.
