Localizer

In aviation, a localizer is a component of the instrument landing system (ILS) that provides lateral guidance to an aircraft approaching and landing on a runway. It is a radio transmitter that emits a signal that the aircraft's instruments can detect and use to determine if it is on the correct course to the runway. The localizer provides a straight line of guidance that the pilot follows to align the aircraft with the runway centerline. The localizer is typically located at the far end of the runway and operates on a frequency of 108.10 to 111.95 MHz. It is an essential component of the ILS and is used in conjunction with the glide slope to provide precision approach guidance to the pilot.
