Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation System

Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation System (MCAS) is a flight control law implemented on the Boeing 737 MAX to enhance pitch stability during steep turns and other low-speed flight phases. MCAS automatically lowers the aircraft's nose when it detects an imminent stall, based on data from angle of attack sensors. The system is designed to improve aircraft handling characteristics and decrease the likelihood of a stall, which can lead to loss of control of the aircraft. However, MCAS has been implicated in two fatal accidents involving the 737 MAX, leading to its grounding by aviation authorities worldwide.
