Microbursts

Microbursts are small-scale downdrafts that can occur in thunderstorms and can pose a significant hazard to aircraft during takeoff and landing. They are short-lived, typically lasting 5-15 minutes, and can produce wind shear, which is a sudden change in wind speed and/or direction. Microbursts can be divided into two types: wet and dry. Wet microbursts are accompanied by precipitation, while dry microbursts are not. Both types can cause dangerous wind shear conditions that can lead to loss of control of the aircraft. Pilots are trained to recognize the signs of microbursts and take appropriate action to avoid them.
