Military Operations Area

A Military operations area (MOA) is an airspace designated outside of Class A airspace, where military training activities are conducted. MOAs are established to separate military training activities from regular civilian air traffic. MOAs are depicted on aeronautical charts and are identified by name or number. Pilots are advised to exercise extreme caution while flying through MOAs, as military aircraft may be operating at high speeds and low altitudes. MOAs are not prohibited airspace, but pilots are encouraged to contact the controlling agency for the MOA before entering to obtain information on the type and extent of military activity.
