MOCA
Minimum Obstruction Clearance Altitude (MOCA) is the lowest altitude in effect between fixes on VOR airways, off-airway routes, or route segments that meets obstacle clearance requirements for the entire route segment and allows acceptable navigational signal coverage only within 22 nautical miles of a VOR. It provides obstruction clearance with a 1,000 feet buffer in non-mountainous terrain and a 2,000 feet buffer in designated mountainous terrain. MOCA is depicted on aeronautical charts to ensure that aircraft can safely navigate through the designated route or segment without colliding with any obstacles. It is important for pilots to maintain MOCA while flying to ensure safe passage through the designated route or segment.
