Mountain Waves

Mountain Waves are a type of atmospheric wave that occurs downwind of a mountain range when a stable airflow is disturbed by the mountain's topography. The wave is characterized by alternating areas of rising and sinking air, with the rising air cooling and forming clouds while the sinking air warms and dries. Mountain Waves can create turbulence and strong winds, making them a potential hazard for aviation. However, they can also be used by glider pilots to gain altitude and extend their flight time.
