Nighttime Operations
Nighttime Operations refer to any aviation activity that takes place during the period between the end of evening civil twilight and the beginning of morning civil twilight. This period is defined as the time when the sun is 6 degrees below the horizon and there is no natural sunlight. Nighttime Operations require special considerations due to the reduced visibility and the increased difficulty in identifying terrain features, obstacles, and other aircraft. Pilots and air traffic controllers must rely on artificial lighting systems, such as runway lights and navigation aids, to safely operate during this period. Additionally, pilots must be trained and certified to conduct Nighttime Operations, and aircraft must be equipped with the necessary lighting and instrumentation to comply with regulatory requirements.
