Non-Directional Beacon
A Non-Directional Beacon (NDB) is a radio transmitter used in aviation as a navigational aid. It emits a continuous signal in all directions, which can be received by an aircraft's radio receiver. The signal is picked up by the aircraft's Automatic Direction Finder (ADF), which allows the pilot to determine the direction of the beacon. NDBs are used for both en route navigation and for approaches to airports. They are often used in areas where other navigation aids are not available or where terrain or other factors make it difficult to use other types of navigation aids.
