Operational Control

In the context of aviation, Operational Control refers to the exercise of authority over the initiation, continuation, diversion, or termination of a flight in the interest of the safety of the aircraft and the regularity and efficiency of the flight. It is a critical aspect of aviation operations, ensuring that all flights are conducted in a safe and efficient manner. The person exercising operational control, often the pilot in command, has the final authority over the operation of the aircraft and is responsible for the safety of the crew, passengers, and cargo. Operational control includes the responsibility for the pre-flight planning, delay, and dispatch of the flight, as well as in-flight decision making regarding route changes, diversions, or emergency procedures. It also involves the compliance with all applicable regulations and operational procedures, including those related to weather, aircraft condition, fuel requirements, crew duty time, and airspace restrictions.
