Overshoot
In aviation, overshoot refers to a situation where an aircraft passes over the intended landing point on a runway during landing. This can happen due to various reasons such as misjudgment of approach speed, wind gusts, or incorrect runway length estimation. Overshoots can be dangerous as they can lead to runway excursions, runway overruns, or even collisions with obstacles beyond the runway. Pilots are trained to recognize and avoid overshoot situations by closely monitoring their approach speed, altitude, and runway length. In case of an overshoot, pilots are trained to execute a go-around procedure, which involves aborting the landing and climbing back to a safe altitude to re-attempt the landing.
