Preliminary Design Phase

The preliminary design phase is the initial stage of the aircraft design process where the general configuration of the aircraft is established. During this phase, the aircraft's performance, weight, and balance are estimated, and the aerodynamic and structural design concepts are developed. The preliminary design phase also includes the selection of the aircraft's powerplant, avionics, and other major systems. The output of this phase is a preliminary design report that serves as the basis for the detailed design phase.
