Radar Altitude
Radar altitude is the vertical distance between an aircraft and the terrain directly beneath it, as measured by the onboard radar altimeter. This type of altitude measurement is independent of atmospheric pressure and is therefore more accurate than barometric altitude. Radar altitude is used by pilots during takeoff and landing to ensure that the aircraft maintains a safe height above the ground. It is also used during low-level flight operations, such as aerial surveying and crop dusting, to maintain a consistent altitude above the terrain.
