Radiation Exposure

Radiation exposure in aviation refers to the exposure of pilots, crew members, and passengers to ionizing radiation from natural and artificial sources during flight. Natural sources of radiation include cosmic radiation from space and terrestrial radiation from the earth's surface. Artificial sources of radiation include medical equipment, security scanners, and nuclear materials transported on board. The level of radiation exposure depends on various factors such as altitude, latitude, duration of flight, and type of aircraft. Pilots and crew members who frequently fly at high altitudes are at a higher risk of radiation exposure. The International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) has set guidelines for radiation exposure in aviation to ensure the safety of passengers and crew members.
