Radiation
Radiation in aviation refers to the emission of energy as electromagnetic waves or as moving subatomic particles, especially high-energy particles that cause ionization. In aviation, radiation can come from natural sources such as cosmic rays or from man-made sources such as X-ray machines used for security screening. Pilots and flight crews are exposed to higher levels of radiation due to the altitude at which they fly. Exposure to high levels of radiation can increase the risk of cancer and other health problems. Therefore, aviation authorities have established guidelines and regulations to limit the exposure of flight crews and passengers to radiation.
