RESA
A Runway End Safety Area (RESA) is a defined area at the end of a runway to enhance the safety of aircraft that undershoot, overrun, or veer off the runway. The purpose of a RESA is to provide a clear area beyond the end of the runway in order to reduce the risk of damage to aircraft or injury to passengers and crew in the event of an overrun or undershoot. The International civil aviation organization (ICAO) recommends that a RESA should extend at least 90 meters from the end of the runway and be at least as wide as the runway. The surface of the RESA should be made of a material that will not damage the aircraft, such as grass, gravel, or engineered materials.
