Rivets

Rivets are mechanical fasteners used to join two or more pieces of material together permanently. In aviation, rivets are commonly used to join sheet metal structures such as wings, fuselages, and control surfaces. The process of riveting involves drilling a hole through the materials to be joined, inserting a rivet into the hole, and then deforming the end of the rivet to hold it in place. Rivets are preferred over other types of fasteners in aviation because they distribute the load evenly across the joint, which helps to prevent fatigue and failure. Additionally, rivets do not require access to both sides of the joint, making them ideal for use in areas that are difficult to reach.
