Rocket Engine
A rocket engine is a type of jet engine that uses only stored rocket propellants to generate its high-speed propulsive jet. Rocket engines are reaction engines, producing thrust in accordance with Newton's third law. Rocket engines are used on spacecraft, missiles, and for propulsion of aircraft. Rocket engines are distinguished from other types of jet engines by the fact that they carry their own oxidizer, eliminating the need for an outside source of oxygen to burn fuel. Rocket engines are more efficient than other types of jet engines in the vacuum of space, but less efficient in the Earth's atmosphere.
