Runway Overrun
A runway overrun occurs when an aircraft is unable to stop before the end of the runway. This can happen due to a variety of factors such as poor weather conditions, mechanical issues, or pilot error. Runway overruns can result in damage to the aircraft, injuries to passengers and crew, and even fatalities. To prevent runway overruns, airports implement safety measures such as grooved runways, arrestor beds, and runway end safety areas (RESAs). Pilots also receive training on how to properly use brakes and spoilers to slow down the aircraft during landing. In the event of a runway overrun, emergency response teams are trained to quickly respond and evacuate passengers and crew from the aircraft.
