Runway Surface Conditions
Runway Surface Conditions refer to the state of the runway surface in terms of its ability to provide adequate friction and braking action to an aircraft during takeoff, landing, and taxiing. The condition of the runway surface is affected by various factors such as weather, contaminants, rubber deposits, and maintenance activities. The runway surface conditions are reported using the Runway condition assessment matrix (RCAM) which is a standardized method of assessing and reporting runway surface conditions. The RCAM takes into account the type and amount of contaminants, the depth of any standing water or slush, and the braking action available on the runway surface.
