Split Duty Period
Split Duty period refers to a period of time during which a flight crew member performs a duty with the possibility of an intervening rest period. The split duty period is divided into two parts, the first duty period and the second duty period. The first duty period cannot exceed three hours, and the second duty period cannot exceed thirteen hours. The intervening rest period must be at least four hours and must be provided between the two duty periods. Split duty periods are regulated by aviation authorities to ensure that flight crew members have adequate rest and are not fatigued during their duties.
