Supplied-air Respirators

Supplied-air respirators (SAR) are respiratory protective devices that provide clean and breathable air from a source outside of the immediate work area. In aviation, SARs are commonly used by pilots, ground crew, and maintenance personnel who work in areas with high levels of airborne contaminants, such as fuel vapors, hydraulic fluids, and engine exhaust. SARs consist of a facepiece or hood, a breathing tube, and an air source, which can be either a compressor or a cylinder of compressed air. The air source is connected to the facepiece or hood via the breathing tube, which delivers the clean air to the user. SARs are essential for protecting aviation personnel from respiratory hazards and ensuring their safety and health.
