Sweep
In aviation, sweep refers to the angle between the wing's chord line and the direction of the wing's root leading edge. Sweep affects the aerodynamic characteristics of the wing, including its lift and drag. Swept wings are commonly used in high-speed aircraft, such as fighter jets and commercial airliners, because they reduce drag and increase lift at high speeds. The amount of sweep is measured in degrees, with higher degrees indicating more sweep. Wing sweep can be classified into three categories: forward sweep, straight sweep, and backward sweep.
