Terrain Following

Terrain Following is a type of flight operation where an aircraft follows the contours of the terrain at low altitude using a radar altimeter and a computerized flight control system. This technique is used to avoid detection by enemy radar and to minimize exposure to anti-aircraft weapons. Terrain Following is commonly used in military aircraft, especially in low-level penetration missions. The system allows the aircraft to fly at high speeds and low altitudes, while avoiding obstacles and maintaining a safe distance from the ground. The pilot inputs the desired altitude and the system automatically adjusts the aircraft's altitude to follow the terrain. The system also provides warnings to the pilot if the aircraft is in danger of colliding with the terrain.
