Transponders
Transponders are electronic devices that receive, amplify, and transmit radio signals in response to a specific incoming signal. In aviation, transponders are used to communicate with air traffic control (ATC) radar systems. They provide information such as the aircraft's altitude, speed, and identification code. Transponders also have different modes, including Mode A, which transmits a four-digit code that identifies the aircraft, and Mode C, which transmits the aircraft's altitude. Mode S is a newer transponder technology that allows for more detailed information to be transmitted, including the aircraft's position and flight plan. Transponders are a crucial component of air traffic control and help ensure the safety of air travel.
