True Altitude
True altitude is the vertical distance of an aircraft above mean sea level (MSL). It is the actual height of an aircraft above the earth's surface, and is measured by a radar altimeter or a barometric altimeter that has been adjusted for non-standard temperature and pressure. True altitude is important for navigation and flight planning, as it is used to determine the aircraft's position relative to terrain and obstacles. It is also used to calculate the aircraft's true airspeed and to maintain safe separation from other aircraft. True altitude is different from indicated altitude, which is the altitude read directly from the altimeter without correction for non-standard temperature and pressure.
