Unit Load Device
A Unit Load Device (ULD) is a pallet or container used to load luggage, freight, and mail onto wide-body aircraft and specific narrow-body aircraft. ULDs allow a large quantity of cargo to be bundled into a single unit. They are designed to fit perfectly into the cargo hold of an aircraft and are secured to the floor to prevent movement during flight. ULDs come in various sizes and shapes, and they are made of lightweight materials such as aluminum and composite materials to reduce weight and increase fuel efficiency. The use of ULDs simplifies the loading and unloading process, reduces the risk of damage to cargo, and speeds up the turnaround time of aircraft.
