Altitude Sickness

Altitude sickness, also known as acute mountain sickness (AMS), is a condition that can occur when a person rapidly ascends to high altitudes, typically above 8,000 feet (2,400 meters). The reduced air pressure and lower oxygen levels at high altitudes can cause symptoms such as headache, nausea, dizziness, fatigue, and shortness of breath. In severe cases, altitude sickness can lead to life-threatening conditions such as high altitude pulmonary edema (HAPE) and high altitude cerebral edema (HACE). It is important for individuals traveling to high altitude destinations to acclimatize slowly and stay hydrated to prevent altitude sickness.
