Class B Airspace
Class B airspace is the airspace designated by the FAA to ensure the safety of aircraft flying in and out of the nation's busiest airports. It is typically shaped like an upside-down wedding cake, with the airport as the center and several layers of airspace surrounding it. Pilots must obtain clearance from air traffic control before entering Class B airspace, and aircraft must be equipped with a transponder and two-way radio communication. The purpose of Class B airspace is to provide a safe and efficient flow of air traffic in and out of busy airports, while also ensuring separation between aircraft.
