Cloud Clearance

Cloud clearance refers to the minimum distance an aircraft must maintain from clouds or other meteorological phenomena during flight. The cloud clearance requirements vary depending on the airspace classification, type of operation, and altitude of the aircraft. In general, aircraft must maintain a minimum distance of 500 feet below, 1,000 feet above, and 2,000 feet horizontally from clouds in Class g airspace. In controlled airspace, the cloud clearance requirements are more stringent, and pilots must comply with the instrument flight rules (IFR) or visual flight rules (VFR) depending on the weather conditions. Failure to maintain the required cloud clearance can result in a violation of aviation regulations and compromise the safety of the flight.
