Flap Settings

Flap settings refer to the position of the flaps on the wings of an aircraft during takeoff, landing, and other critical phases of flight. Flaps are movable surfaces on the trailing edge of the wings that increase the lift and drag of the aircraft. By changing the flap settings, pilots can adjust the lift and drag characteristics of the aircraft to optimize performance for different phases of flight. Flap settings are typically specified in degrees of deflection from the wing's chord line, and can range from 0 degrees (fully retracted) to 40 degrees or more (fully extended). The appropriate flap setting for a given phase of flight depends on factors such as aircraft weight, airspeed, and runway length.
