Flight Service Station
A Flight service station (FSS) is an air traffic facility that provides pilots with pre-flight and in-flight weather information, flight plan processing, and other essential information such as NOTAMs (Notice to Airmen). FSSs also provide pilots with en route communications and emergency assistance. FSSs are staffed by FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) Flight Service Specialists who are highly trained in aviation weather, flight planning, and emergency procedures. FSSs are typically located at smaller airports and are an important resource for general aviation pilots who may not have access to other air traffic control services.
