Performance-based Navigation
Performance-based Navigation (PBN) is a method of navigation that allows aircraft to fly precisely-defined paths using advanced on-board navigation systems and avionics. PBN is based on Area navigation (RNAV) and Required Navigation Performance (RNP) concepts, which enable aircraft to fly on any desired flight path within the coverage of ground- or space-based navigation aids or within the limits of the aircraft's avionics. PBN provides significant benefits to aviation, including increased safety, capacity, efficiency, and reduced environmental impact. PBN procedures are designed based on the aircraft's performance capabilities, taking into account factors such as speed, altitude, and climb/descent rates, and are tailored to specific airspace requirements and operational needs.
