Radiation Exposure Limits
Radiation Exposure Limits refer to the maximum amount of ionizing radiation that a person can be exposed to without suffering adverse health effects. In aviation, radiation exposure limits are particularly important for pilots and flight crews who are exposed to higher levels of cosmic radiation due to the altitude at which they fly. The International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) has set a recommended annual dose limit of 1 millisievert (mSv) for occupational exposure to ionizing radiation. In addition, the Federal aviation administration (FAA) has established guidelines for radiation exposure limits for pilots and flight crews, which vary depending on the altitude and duration of the flight.
