Radio Beacon
A radio beacon is a navigation aid that emits a continuous or periodic signal that can be received by aircraft to determine their position or bearing. Radio beacons can be used for both en route navigation and approach procedures. The most common types of radio beacons are Non-Directional Beacons (NDBs) and Very High Frequency Omnidirectional Range (VOR) stations. NDBs operate in the low frequency band and provide a signal that can be received by aircraft equipped with ADF (Automatic Direction Finder) equipment. VORs operate in the VHF band and provide a signal that can be received by aircraft equipped with VOR receivers. Radio beacons are an important component of the air navigation system and are used to provide pilots with accurate and reliable navigation information.
