Supersonic Flight
Supersonic flight is the ability of an aircraft to travel faster than the speed of sound. The speed of sound varies depending on altitude and temperature, but at sea level and 15 degrees Celsius, it is approximately 1,225 kilometers per hour (761 miles per hour). Supersonic flight requires advanced aerodynamic design and powerful engines to overcome the drag and other forces that act on the aircraft at high speeds. The most famous supersonic aircraft is the Concorde, which operated from 1976 to 2003. Supersonic flight is currently prohibited over land due to the sonic boom it creates, but it is still used for military purposes and research.
