Vertical Separation

Vertical Separation is the distance measured between two aircraft in flight, vertically separated to avoid collision. It is the minimum safe altitude maintained by aircraft to avoid mid-air collisions. The vertical separation is measured in feet or meters and is determined by the air traffic control based on the type of airspace, aircraft speed, and altitude. The standard vertical separation is 1000 feet or 300 meters. The vertical separation is crucial in maintaining the safety of the aircraft in the airspace and is a critical component of air traffic control.
